Real trucks, parked up with the doors open and the crews standing beside them. Climb into the cab, sit behind the wheel, and pull the horn cord — that last part is not optional as far as most children are concerned.

What happens
Fire engines, diggers, tree-service rigs, a tow truck and whatever else the crews can drive onto the field that morning. Every vehicle is open — children climb up, sit in the driver's seat, work the controls that are safe to work, and ask the people who use them for a living what everything does.
The crews stay with their vehicles all day, so there is no timetable to catch. Come back three times if your child wants to. Most do.
What to bring
- Ear defenders for younger children — the horns are loud and they get used
- A sun hat, the field has little shade
- A camera. You will want the photo of them in the cab
Good to know
- A quiet hour runs at the start of the day with the horns switched off, for children who would rather meet the trucks without the noise
- Steps and ramps at every vehicle; the crews lift where lifting is needed
- Vehicles are on grass — pushchairs manage, but it is bumpy
