The Academy of Music and Art and Gainesville Guitar Academy has taught music in Gainesville for over thirty years, working from a historic building on NW 13th Street with twelve studios, a recital hall and a visual art studio. Founded by musicians and music teachers, it offers private instrumental instruction on guitar, keyboard, drums and more, plus voice, small visual art classes, group sessions and master classes, taught by more than twenty degreed teachers. The Academy states that it has been given approval by the school system so that its lessons count toward required arts credits in home school and high school programs. MusikGarten provides early music education in movement and instrumental music for the youngest children; older students can take theory, composition and songwriting classes, perform in age- and level-matched ensembles and jam sessions, and enter local, state and national competitions and club festivals.
